Shonan holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and a Master’s in Advanced Architectural Design from the Bartlett School of Built Environment, UCL, London. She previously worked with Eisenman Architects in New York City and Le Groupe Arcop in Montreal.
Alongside practice, Shonan has been a part-time faculty member at KRVIA and a mentor with the Sustainable Futures Program (JSW and ISDI). She continues to engage in architectural education and discourse, contributing as a critic, lecturer, and mentor.
The practice has received national and international recognition with awards including AD50, AD100, EDIDA, and ID Honours, alongside finalist selections at the World Architecture Festival in 2019 (Amsterdam) and 2022 (Lisbon). L.A.B.’s work has been published extensively and featured in books such as 20 x 20 Iconic Homes and in leading design journals including Elle Décor UK and Architectural Digest.
Today, through L.A.B., Shonan leads a team that combines inventive design, rigorous execution, and sensitivity to people and place; crafting architecture that endures with relevance, intelligence, and meaning.
