Vatsal Bharmani

Lead Architect

With a decade of experience, Vatsal brings to LAB a sensibility shaped by early mentorship under Prof. Neelkanth Chhaya, an award-winning thesis on a Buddhist monastery in Himachal Pradesh, and a formative summer in Ladakh studying earth construction. His time at DCOOP and Studio Mumbai further rooted his appreciation for craft, material honesty, and architecture that listens deeply to its context.

At LAB, Vatsal’s work has been central to homes shaped by sensitive site responses—the Radial House, the Seven Courtyard House, and a challenging residence on a steep hillside where terrain, structure, and landscape negotiate one another with care. His explorations continue through earth-architecture housing prototypes for Dhun and the Women’s Livelihood Centre in Jaisalmer, alongside contemporary structural experiments such as a steel lattice house currently in development. His projects have taken him across the country—from Baroda to Hampi, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, and Goa—each place enriching his understanding of climate, craft, and landscape.

Vatsal is drawn to the threshold between the tangible and the intangible: where materials meet atmosphere, where structure shapes emotion, and where architecture feels both grounded and quietly transcendent. He leads design teams with rigorous clarity, material curiosity, and a pursuit of spaces that linger long after they are experienced.

With nearly nine years of industry experience, Vatsal continues to lead and manage multidisciplinary design teams at LAB, overseeing projects across scales from conceptualization to delivery. He anchors the design process with clarity and rigor, while nurturing a culture of thoughtful exploration within the studio. His role extends beyond design authorship into mentorship, quality control, and strategic decision-making—ensuring that every project reflects LAB’s commitment to contextual intelligence, material integrity, and architectural precision.
